Job description
Role Overview
Join Napier City Council as a Water Serviceperson Leading Hand, a key position dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the city’s drinking water infrastructure. In this role, you will work hand in hand with an experienced team to ensure the water system operates safely, efficiently, and complies with all environmental and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Team Leader in managing daily workflow and support junior team members through mentoring and guidance.
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks across the water supply network, ensuring high-quality work and timely completion.
- Execute construction projects according to design specifications, including installing connections, water mains, meters, and backflow preventors.
- Promote and adopt new technologies and innovative work methods to advance the water services.
- Contribute actively to keeping Napier’s water supply clean, safe, and continuously operational 24/7.
Candidate Profile
- Possess relevant qualifications in Water Reticulation, Utilities Maintenance, or equivalent practical experience in water network construction and maintenance.
- Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and effective communication to foster safe and efficient team operations.
- Have hands-on experience with water supply systems, traffic management, and adhering to compliance standards.
- Exhibit a proactive and team-oriented mindset with a strong sense of responsibility and pride in your work.

Additional Information
This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 42.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, based in Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The hourly wage ranges from $34.71 to $36.19, plus KiwiSaver eligibility, with final compensation reflecting experience and skills.
