About the Role
The Irish Naval Service is the primary maritime defense organization of the state, responsible for handling both actual and potential maritime defense requirements. We are currently inviting candidates to apply for the position of Direct Entry Radio Radar Technician (RRT). This role is ideal for technology enthusiasts who thrive in team environments and aim to build a dynamic career within maritime operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and provide operational support for critical communication, radar, and electronic navigation systems aboard Naval Service vessels and shore installations.
- Ensure the operational readiness and efficiency of naval communication and navigation equipment, critical to maritime and land-based missions.
- Leading Radio Radar Technicians (L/RRTs) will receive training to undertake Petty Officer duties, which include managing the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of onboard systems.
- Engage in emergency response and damage control activities such as firefighting and other related exercises.
Eligibility Criteria
- Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Marine Electrotechnology (both HETAC Level 7), or an Ordinary Degree in Electronic Engineering – Military Communication Systems (Carlow), or an approved national equivalent.
- Candidates must be aged between 18 and 39, with proof of age required during advanced selection phases.
- Applicants must be at least 5 feet 2 inches (157.48cm) tall; height verification will occur during selection.
- No visible tattoos above the collar are allowed while serving; this will be checked during selection and may disqualify candidates.
- Applicants must fulfill work permit requirements to serve in the Defence Forces, evidencing eligibility to reside in Ireland for at least five years.
- Medical, physical fitness, and security clearances are mandatory and will be assessed during recruitment.
Work Location
This role is based at the Naval Base on Haulbowline Island, Cork.
