Role Summary

The position for Principal Environmental Scientist focuses on Contaminated Land Management, ideally based in Wellington or Christchurch, New Zealand. This role requires an expert with extensive experience and a detail-oriented approach, who is passionate about guiding and developing junior team members. The job involves engaging in diverse multidisciplinary projects spanning infrastructure, community development, and construction, alongside involvement in bid, tender, and contract preparation within a consultancy framework.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

• Lead design and execution of comprehensive fieldwork programs and related reporting, covering soil, groundwater, surface water, and ground gas investigations, including PFAS assessments.
• Conduct thorough technical reviews with deep understanding of National Environmental Standards for Contaminated Sites (NESCS) and regional environmental requirements.
• Provide consistent mentorship and training to junior staff, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
• Manage client relationships and project delivery effectively, employing clear and confident communication while collaborating with clients and internal teams.
• Contribute actively to the development of bids, tenders, and contractual documents, supporting consultancy growth.

Qualifications and Experience

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Sciences or Geology is essential.
• Possess between 15 to 20 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, with a minimum of 15 years specializing in Contaminated Land management.
• Currently hold or working towards Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) Specialist Certification (SC).
