Job description
Job Overview
We have an opening for a Plant Operative position at the Wednesbury Hazardous Waste Treatment Plant. This role involves working approximately 45 hours weekly on rotating shifts from 07:00–16:00 and 09:00–18:00, Monday to Friday, with occasional requirements for flexibility in start and finish times and potential weekend work.
Key Duties
The operative will handle daily responsibilities including the reception, sorting, storage, treatment, and processing of all incoming and outgoing waste according to approved methods. Ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout all processes is paramount. Additional tasks include manual handling such as sweeping, cleaning spillages, weighing, repacking packaged materials, and maintaining the overall tidiness of the site.
Qualifications and Desirable Skills
Comprehensive training will be provided on all processes. Experience in the waste management sector and supervisory roles is highly regarded. Familiarity with first aid, fire marshal duties, and maintenance of mobile or static plant equipment is advantageous. Valuable additional credentials include licenses for counterbalance forklift trucks and telehandlers as well as knowledge of working within time-sensitive hazardous waste environments.

Compensation and Conditions
