Role Overview

The position of Payroll Technician Specialist I located in Mauritius involves comprehensive management of payroll operations ensuring that all components of the payroll cycle are executed, audited, and transmitted with precision and timeliness. This role requires collaboration with customers and various internal teams to support payroll processing, address payroll queries, oversee file integrations, and contribute to delivering superior payroll services. Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong customer service focus are vital.

Key Duties

  • Manage complete payroll cycles including processing, reconciliation, auditing, and transmission within set deadlines.
  • Handle payroll modifications, payments, and transactions for designated clients.
  • Conduct quality assurance and audits to reduce errors and ensure accuracy.
  • Work cross-functionally to resolve payroll issues and respond to employee inquiries.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to investigate and fix payroll incidents.
  • Keep clients regularly informed about the status of payroll cases and incidents.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through attentive service delivery.
  • Contribute to a payroll support knowledge base and update documentation.
  • Spot and suggest improvements for payroll processes proactively.
  • Monitor scheduled payroll file imports and exports, processing and validating these files accurately.
  • Record and track payroll cases using the CRM system and maintain up-to-date SharePoint statuses.
  • Collaborate with Technical Support to troubleshoot processing challenges.
  • Examine payroll trial exception reports and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Keep global teams abreast of escalations and client feedback.
  • Adhere to established operational workflows, controls, and service standards.
  • Meet or surpass key performance metrics and undertake corrective/preventive actions as needed.
  • Log critical delivery and operational data accurately.
  • Develop deep expertise in payroll operations.
  • Identify and communicate operational risks timely.
  • Escalate customer concerns where appropriate and embrace continuous improvement through feedback.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience in a high-volume payroll setting; full payroll cycle knowledge advantageous.
  • Background in payroll outsourcing or consulting preferred.
  • Solid grasp of payroll regulations, including RTI compliance.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage time and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience in customer support or service roles.
  • Fluency in English with strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Professional telephone etiquette.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to generate accurate reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Meticulous attention to detail aimed at maintaining quality and precision.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, adaptability, and customer-oriented attitude.
  • Systems-focused with adept problem-solving abilities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • CIPP or equivalent payroll certification in EMEA.
  • Knowledge of GDPR compliance.
  • Higher education credentials.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a client-facing office environment.
  • Experience supporting payroll processes in the EMEA region.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and public holidays, especially during year-end.
