Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team based in LaPorte, Indiana. This position suits a highly meticulous professional experienced in handling payroll across multiple states, particularly within the construction industry with union considerations, functioning effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. The individual will ensure precision and punctuality in payroll processing while collaborating closely with employees, field staff, Human Resources, accounting teams, and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute multi-state payroll processes accurately, covering hourly, salary, overtime, and variable pay elements.
- Administer union payroll operations, managing diverse union contracts, benefit deductions, compliance with prevailing wage laws, and accompanying reports.
- Oversee payroll for construction personnel, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local legal standards.
- Examine timekeeping records, address inconsistencies, and guarantee correct labor and job-cost distribution.
- Generate payroll reports, conduct reconciliations, and prepare supportive documentation for financial and managerial review.
- Maintain comprehensive payroll records and respond to payroll-related inquiries.
- Collaborate with HR and on-site leadership regarding personnel changes, wage modifications, deductions, and other payroll inputs.
- Support year-end processes including W-2 issuance, audits, and compliance verification.
- Proactively suggest enhancements to payroll workflows, controls, and overall efficiency.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years of direct payroll experience, with strong operational expertise.
- Demonstrated experience managing payroll across multiple states.
- Preferred background in construction and union payroll administration.
- In-depth knowledge of wage and hour laws, union contracts, prevailing wage standards, and payroll regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in Excel and payroll systems; familiarity with Viewpoint, Vista, ComputerEase, Procore, ADP, or equivalent platforms is advantageous.
- Exceptional organization skills with rigorous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communicator capable of working well with a broad range of stakeholders including employees and management.
- Capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines within a demanding, high-volume environment.
- Independent worker with a collaborative team-oriented attitude.
