Role Overview

This full-time position on-site in Sharjah requires an Ophthalmic Technician to assist ophthalmologists and optometrists in delivering superior eye care. Responsibilities include conducting preliminary patient assessments, such as visual acuity testing and supporting refraction exams, performing basic diagnostic tests, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with specialized imaging like fundus photography, and accurately documenting medical details as a clinical scribe.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out initial eye assessments and support refraction procedures under supervision.
  • Conduct basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests and assist with clinical imaging techniques.
  • Prepare patients for eye exams and ensure smooth workflow in the clinic.
  • Act as a clinical scribe by recording patient medical histories, exam results, and treatment information diligently.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Manage patient flow and medical record accuracy in a busy clinical setting.
  • Provide patients with clear guidance about their tests and follow-up care instructions.
  • Collaborate efficiently with clinical and administrative teams to uphold safety and operational standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Basic clinical understanding of ophthalmology and optometry, including routine eye exams and common eye illnesses.
  • Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic tools such as fundus photography and other imaging/testing devices.
  • Proficiency in clinical scribing for detailed and accurate patient documentation.
  • Knowledge of medical principles related to eye care, medications, anatomy, and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact courteously with patients and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Competent in using electronic health records and basic computer software.
  • Diploma or certification in ophthalmic technology, optometry assistance, or equivalent healthcare training; prior experience in an eye clinic is advantageous.
  • Adherence to patient confidentiality, clinical safety, and infection control guidelines.
