Operations Support Officer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced maritime professional to join our team supporting the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS) Control Program. This critical role ensures operational excellence and data integrity across the contracted vessel fleet by performing routine audits and quality assurance to uphold high standards. Serving as a key intermediary between the Reef Authority and service providers, this position plays an essential role in compliance and program delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and report on regular on-water visits to contractor vessels, auditing operational procedures and in-field data collection for quality assurance.
• Collaborate with the Diving Operations Manager to assess contractor Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) frameworks for compliance, adequacy, and relevance.
• Oversee and quality control COTS Program voyage data to aid operational planning and integration with the Reef Authority's information systems.
• Foster and maintain constructive relationships with contracted service providers, stakeholders, and First Nations communities regarding program matters.
• Assist in updating and reviewing program manuals, guidelines, and reports, while engaging with cross-sectional projects within the Reef Interventions section.

• Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and sees tasks through to completion.
• Highly organized, exercises sound judgment with keen attention to detail.
• Background in WHS and quality assurance within a maritime environment.
• Proven experience developing and sustaining relationships with contractors and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure responsibly.
• Resilient and team-oriented mindset.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

• Possession of Dive Master or ADAS Part 1 Diver certification (or training per AS/NZS 2815.1) with ability to maintain standards in line with AS/NZS 2299.1:2015 occupational diving operational practices.
• Hold and maintain a current Australian driver's license.
• Willingness to travel, often on short notice, and work weekends or outside usual hours as necessary.
