About Wing
Wing provides drone delivery as a safer, quicker, and more sustainable approach to last-mile logistics. As consumer demand for instant delivery grows, traditional methods remain inefficient, expensive, and linked to traffic-related accidents and pollution. Wing has built a fleet of highly automated delivery drones that can carry small parcels directly from businesses to customers in minutes. The company designs, builds, and operates its aircraft and delivers drone-based logistics services across two continents. Its technology is built to plug into existing delivery and logistics systems, making it a scalable option for many types of businesses. Wing is part of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, and its mission is to become the world’s preferred delivery method.
About the Role
Wing is hiring a Learning & Development Lead for its People team. The ideal candidate is a builder who understands how employees learn and build skills, and who is motivated to create systems and conditions that support a strong learning culture. This position can be hybrid in Palo Alto, CA or remote within the United States.
This role is for a future-focused, tech-savvy learning leader who will design, launch, and scale Wing’s centralized corporate training function. In the beginning, you will work as a high-impact individual contributor and create the foundation for how the company learns, grows capabilities, and supports key operational priorities. The position is not centered on legacy LMS administration or static training modules. Instead, it calls for a modern learning model that uses AI, LLM-based knowledge systems, and contextual delivery to create adaptive training for a highly technical and operational workforce that is growing quickly.
Key Responsibilities
You will build the strategy, framework, and operating foundation for Wing’s first centralized corporate training function supporting the global workforce. You will assess, choose, and implement modern, AI-enabled learning platforms and knowledge systems, with an emphasis on adaptive learning paths and real-time support rather than outdated static LMS tools.
You will shape the organization’s core learning pillars using strong learning science so that training clearly supports measurable business outcomes. Early program areas include safety, compliance, and Environmental Health & Safety, as well as expanding Wing’s leadership frameworks that define how managers guide, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
You will also help strengthen engineering and operational capability through modern workflows and partner with AI Champions across the company to extend AI-related learning and development. In addition, you will work closely with client groups and executive leaders to align learning goals with business metrics and changing regulatory needs.
Your partnerships will include working with the Aviation Safety team on learning content that supports the Safety Management System, and with Legal, Compliance, and EH&S teams on training for employees and extended field teams. You will facilitate training sessions for Winglets both virtually and in person, depending on the material. Initially, you will design and deliver content yourself and later help build a small, agile team to broaden the impact.
Requirements
You should bring 10+ years of overall experience in instructional design, corporate learning, or people development, with demonstrated success launching programs in fast-scaling technology companies or in aviation, robotics, or hardware environments. A bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.
Strong knowledge of instructional design theory and learning psychology is important, along with the ability to create training that works for very different audiences, from office-based software engineers to field-based employees. You should also have hands-on experience using AI solutions within evolving learning workflows.
The role requires the ability to connect learning efforts to business outcomes such as lower incident rates, faster engineering execution, and stronger leadership retention, rather than relying on simple course-completion metrics. Wing is also looking for someone who is comfortable operating as an individual contributor in the early phase by writing content, organizing materials, and building courses directly, while also having the strategic maturity to establish a new function within the People team. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills are expected.
Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time role is USD 220,000 to USD 234,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary is determined based on role level and location, and a recruiter will provide the exact range for your location during the hiring process.
Equal Opportunity
Wing is an equal opportunity employer and follows all applicable national, state, and local laws regarding nondiscrimination and equal opportunity. Hiring decisions are based only on merit and qualifications tied to professional competence. The company does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy or related condition including breastfeeding, or any other legally protected status.
Accommodation
If you need an accommodation during the interview process because of a disability or special need, you can submit a Candidate Accommodations Request Form.
