Job description
Overview
Join Auckland Council to promote an active lifestyle for the Auckland community by ensuring safety and excellent experiences at Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre. This fixed-term, full-time position lasts until September 2027 and involves working within a passionate team focused on aquatic safety and program delivery.
Key Duties
- Deliver and guide aquatic programs to support community participation and safety in the pool environment.
- Perform standard lifeguarding tasks to maintain a secure and welcoming atmosphere for all patrons.
- Assist the Team Leader with everyday Centre operational responsibilities.
Work Schedule and Training
The Centre operates 7 days a week, requiring availability for early mornings, late shifts, weekends, and extended hours during school holidays and summer periods. Typical shifts include Sundays from 9:45 AM to 6:15 PM and Monday to Thursday from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with occasional adjustments based on operational needs. A mandatory two-week training session at West Wave is scheduled from September 28 to October 9, 2026.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is passionate about aquatics, enthusiastic about sharing safety knowledge, and an effective communicator committed to delivering top-quality aquatic programs. A team-focused mindset, flexibility, and initiative to foster a strong safety culture are essential.
Applicants must hold a current First Aid Certificate and a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC). Candidates should confidently meet the swim test standards: swimming 200 meters in under 6 minutes, swimming 25 meters sidestroke, swimming 50 meters breaststroke, retrieving an object from pool bottom, and treading water for 5 minutes.
