Job description
Role Overview
Join our Mangawhai Library team as a Lead Librarian in a full-time, permanent capacity working 40 hours weekly from Monday to Saturday. This hands-on community role involves managing daily library operations and leading a small team, fostering an engaging space for learning, information access, and community connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily functions of Mangawhai Library ensuring smooth operations.
- Lead and coordinate a team comprising Library Assistants, casual workers, and volunteers.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and assist patrons with accessing library resources and technology.
- Support the development and execution of library events, programmes, and displays while promoting services through social media and other communication channels.
- Monitor library systems, generate reports, and maintain operational processes.
- Participate in projects aimed at enhancing the library’s services and undertake ongoing improvement initiatives.
- Assist with collection upkeep and stock management to maintain quality standards.
Candidate Profile
- Proven ability or experience in team leadership or coordination within libraries or related customer/community-focused settings.
- Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
- Confident use of digital technologies and aptitude in supporting others with tech tools and systems.
- Excellent organizational aptitude with close attention to detail.
- A proactive mindset, ready to engage in diverse tasks as needed.
- Passionate about libraries, reading, learning, and community involvement.
A formal qualification in library sciences is desirable but not mandatory. The emphasis is on leadership, service excellence, and creating positive community experiences.
