Job description
Overview
Koforidua Technical University is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Guidance & Counselling Officer. This role demands high caliber judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, precision, and professionalism within the guidance and counselling specialty. The officer will report directly to the Dean of Students, overseeing the management of the Guidance and Counselling Department.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver counselling services designed to alleviate academic and social pressures experienced by students and staff.
- Organize workshops and seminars focusing on guidance, counselling, and life-planning skills.
- Develop strategic plans and initiatives to address life challenges faced by students in the academic setting.
- Conduct individual and group counselling sessions tailored to students with specific concerns.
- Train peer educators and mediators within the institution to support counselling efforts.
- Ensure clients requiring specialized intervention receive appropriate attention from qualified personnel or authorities.
- Design and implement structured lessons aimed at enhancing student competencies in learning and research.
Qualifications and Experience
- Applicants must hold a minimum of a research Master's degree in a relevant field with at least eight years of post-qualification experience.
- Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of six years’ experience serving as Assistant Guidance and Counselling Officer in a tertiary institution are eligible.
- Additional industrial experience and membership in recognized professional bodies will be advantageous.
- Candidates must be prepared to submit a report detailing work performed at their current grade for evaluation by two external assessors.
