Job description

Overview

Sapien Engineering is looking to add an Estimator/Buyer to support the Supply Chain Manager within their engineering team based in Kent. This position focuses on purchasing materials that align with company needs, including gathering and evaluating supplier details and pricing to streamline procurement and supplier oversight processes. Candidates must be eligible for SC-level security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the work.

Key Duties

  • Communicate with suppliers and internal teams to obtain detailed quotations including cost breakdowns.
  • Issue Purchase Orders (POs) and Purchase Requisitions (PRs).
  • Create Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Quotes (RFQs) with detailed cost breakdowns.
  • Develop manufacturing cost estimates supporting the sales and engineering departments.
  • Coordinate with engineering on selecting appropriate suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to evaluate vendor performance.
  • Address invoice discrepancies promptly.
  • Engage new suppliers to gather data on pricing, delivery, and capabilities.
  • Compile purchasing reports and perform comparative analyses of quotations.
  • Support ongoing supplier performance monitoring through accurate data provision.
  • Advance purchase orders and assist with import clearance procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to aid business operations.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in an engineering procurement environment.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems with multiple factors.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication capabilities.
  • Familiarity with engineering terms and manufacturing practices.
  • Experience managing MRP-driven purchase orders and independent requisitions.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Standard working schedule: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
  • Competitive salary ranging from £29,000 to £33,000 annually based on experience.
  • 9-day fortnight scheme, allowing every other Friday off.
