English Language Training Specialist

Role Overview

Join Skills Group's Academic Team at the Wiri campus as a dedicated English Language Training Specialist. This full-time, fixed-term position for six months involves delivering and assessing the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) Level 4. The role focuses on empowering English language learners to develop the academic expertise and confidence required for success in higher education.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct engaging in-person academic English lessons covering reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
• Evaluate learner performance based on NZQA competency-based unit standards with timely and constructive feedback.
• Provide academic guidance and pastoral support to nurture learner success.
• Prepare Individual Learning Plans and track attendance, involvement, and academic progress.
• Maintain accurate learner records in Selma, participate in moderation activities, and utilize Learning Hive as a learning aid.
• Ensure compliance with NZQA standards and organizational policies related to teaching, assessment, and learner support.

Qualifications and Experience

• Hold a recognized English language teaching qualification such as exaCELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, DELTA, a Graduate Diploma in Tertiary Teaching, or a Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related fields.
• Proven experience teaching NZCEL or English for Academic Purposes programs at Level 4 or corresponding to CEFR B2 levels.
• Proficient in learner-focused academic English methods, including scaffolded writing, referencing, plagiarism awareness, presentations, debates, and integrated four-skills instruction.
• Demonstrated expertise in assessing NZQA competency-based unit standards with possession of NZQA assessor unit standards 4098 and 11551.
• Experience with international learners and a strong commitment to learner support, quality education delivery, and continuous improvement.
