Organization Overview

The Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (LCFASD), serving the Lac la Biche County region in Alberta, Canada, has been delivering diagnostic, intervention, and prevention services related to FASD since 2000. The organization is recognized provincially and nationally for its innovative, non-judgmental, and supportive programs.

Our Vision is a future with no new FASD births and robust support for those currently affected. Our Mission is to ensure accurate information, prevention, diagnosis, and support services for FASD are accessible throughout the region.

Role Overview

We invite you to help individuals with FASD secure employment and improve job skills. This role requires flexible working hours and significant travel within the communities of Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, and Lac La Biche, where our offices are located.

Key Duties

  • Create and deliver training and informational sessions to assist agencies, employers, and communities in understanding how to support individuals with FASD in employment contexts.
  • Identify and develop employment, volunteer, and work experience opportunities for clients.
  • Provide ongoing support to clients to help them maintain their employment.
  • Collect and manage statistical data related to client employment outcomes.
  • Maintain strong engagement and partnerships with employers.
  • Organize regular self-improvement and employment skills training sessions at satellite offices.
  • Plan and coordinate community Mocktail events aimed at creating employment opportunities for clients.
  • Support employment opportunities through collaboration with other agency social enterprise initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • At least three years of direct community-based experience working with high-risk populations.
  • Cultural competence is essential for this role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for individual case management, community agency collaboration, and public speaking.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Word.

Preferred Assets

  • Experience working with First Nation, Inuit, or Métis peoples is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of FASD is considered a plus.

Training Opportunities

  • Motivational Interviewing.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
  • Addictions and Mental Health training (considered an asset).

Employment Conditions

  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Child Intervention Record Check is mandatory.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and good insurance history to maintain insurance through LCFASD.
  • Ability to use personal vehicle for client transportation when LCFASD vehicle is unavailable.
  • Proof of 2 million dollars third-party vehicle insurance is required.

Working Environment

  • Caseload assignment provided by the Executive Director; responsibilities include supporting clients’ employment goals throughout program participation.
  • Required travel around Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, and Lac La Biche.
  • Maintain timely case management and governmental reporting obligations.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly wage ranges from $25.18 to $27.29, depending on education and experience.
  • Flexible working hours totaling 36.25 hours per week and not exceeding 145 hours per four-week period, potentially including time outside typical office hours (8:15 AM–4:30 PM).
  • Overtime may be necessary.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation starting immediately upon employment.
  • Accrual of 10.88 hours of sick leave per month after completing a three-month probationary period.
