Job description

Position Summary

This full-time night role in the Emergency Department involves providing attentive care to patients who are sick or injured under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. The technician will collaborate with various departments and facilities to meet patients’ needs effectively.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or equivalent education.
  • Experience in the field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Holding a current Missouri EMT License is advantageous but optional.
  • Possessing a current Basic Cardiovascular Life Support (BCLS) certification is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver care in a respectful, unbiased manner that honors the diverse backgrounds and rights of pediatric, adult, and elderly patients and their families.
  • Assist in treating sick or injured patients in the Emergency Department following directives from RN and physicians.
  • Accurately record procedures performed, patient vital signs, triage details, and all care activities in patient charts.
  • Prepare and sanitize rooms by handling biohazards, linens, instruments, and ensuring readiness for subsequent patients.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment by monitoring and replenishing necessary supplies.
  • Understand operation of medical equipment thoroughly, promptly report any malfunctions according to hospital policies.
  • Complete all mandated trainings and competency assessments related to emergency procedures.
  • Upon documented competency testing, perform advanced skills such as intravenous insertion, specimen collection, and respiratory treatments under RN and physician supervision.
  • Communicate patient status and treatment delays clearly to patients and families, documenting these interactions appropriately.
  • Keep all necessary certifications current.
  • Exhibit courtesy and professionalism towards patients, staff, and visitors within the hospital.
  • Foster positive collaborative relationships with healthcare professionals, safety agencies, EMS providers, and the public.
  • Handle precise patient registration, organize records, discharge papers, and transfer documentation.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as faxing and requesting patient records as necessary.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Essential Skills

  • Basic proficiency with computer systems.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to engage appropriately with various stakeholders through in-person, telephone, or radio communication.
  • Critical thinking to assess and provide recommendations in dynamic situations.
