Role overview
The Learning Network is inviting independent contractors to support project-based and hourly eLearning development work. The assignment focuses on designing, building, and delivering custom digital learning assets and solutions. This is an open call, and qualified contractors will be contacted whenever suitable work becomes available.
Compensation and engagement
This is not a full-time or salaried position. Work is offered on an hourly contract basis, with pay between $35 and $45 per hour depending on experience for candidates who live in Canada or the USA. Invoicing will be based on services rendered, and some projects may also use a fixed-fee arrangement.
Scope of work
- Build polished learning materials using tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Vyond, and similar multimedia software.
- Convert instructional design plans, storyboards, scripts, and source content into interactive, accessible, and effective digital learning experiences.
- Create and update eLearning courses, simulations, assessments, scenarios, and reusable learning elements with adult learning principles and user experience in mind.
- Work closely with instructional designers, subject matter experts, project managers, clients, and internal teams to gather requirements, align expectations, define scope, and deliver learning solutions.
- Spot project risks and scope concerns early and escalate them when needed.
- Offer informal support and practical guidance to other eLearning developers, helping with onboarding, consistency, and efficient delivery practices.
- Check and test deliverables for accuracy, functionality, usability, accessibility, branding, and compliance with client, internal, and WCAG standards where relevant.
- Resolve issues related to course behavior, publishing, LMS compatibility, tracking, media, accessibility, and the learner experience.
- Apply user acceptance testing feedback quickly and accurately.
- Juggle several development projects at once while meeting timelines, scope, quality, and communication expectations.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in workflows, standards, templates, quality assurance, and the use of emerging eLearning, AI-enabled, automation, and assistive tools.
Technical skills and working knowledge
The contractor should be comfortable using collaboration and documentation tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Slack, or similar platforms. Strong working knowledge of Articulate 360, especially Storyline and Rise, is expected, along with familiarity with Adobe tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Audition. Captivate or another comparable authoring tool is considered an advantage.
Other important knowledge areas include LMS packaging and publishing, tracking, SCORM/xAPI, accessibility standards, WCAG guidance, and quality assurance testing practices. A solid grounding in adult learning principles, instructional design methods, and learner-centered UX is also important. Familiarity with AI-enabled tools, automation features, and assistive technologies that support development efficiency, accessibility testing, media production, and QA is beneficial.
Location and working arrangements
This work is fully remote and open to contractors based in any city, province, or state in the USA or Canada. Contractors must provide their own tools and workspace. Time commitment will vary depending on project demand.
Additional notes
This opportunity is for independent contractors only. It is intended for hourly or project-based engagement rather than regular employment.
