Job description
Job Overview
We invite applications for the role of Educational Application Developer to design, develop, and sustain educational technology solutions for our polytechnic institute. The role demands expertise across multiple programming languages and frameworks, focusing on platforms that support teaching and learning.
Primary Duties
- Manage and tailor the Learning Management System (LMS) by configuring it to align with the institution's educational goals, creating plugins and themes, regulating course and user settings, setting up enrollment and grading workflows, integrating with other institutional systems via APIs, ensuring systems uptime and performance, and providing support and training to faculty.
- Develop and adapt the Student Information System (SIS) components to handle academic records, enrollment, and results; create data workflows linking SIS with other platforms; produce custom reports for academic and admin uses; safeguard data integrity and access; collaborate with the Registrar's office to synchronize system functions with institutional protocols.
- Oversee the institutional website's development and upkeep, including building pages and features, managing content management system settings, controlling user permissions, publishing workflows, and optimizing security and performance.
- Configure and customize online assessment tools by creating question banks, setting up automated grading workflows, and integrating assessment platforms with LMS and SIS for smooth results processing.
- Design additional web-based applications or portals to support academic programs; customize existing platforms to meet changing needs; evaluate and implement third-party educational technologies; maintain detailed technical documentation and user manuals; assist the IT team with infrastructure, security, and integration tasks.
Technical Skills and Requirements
- Proficiency in programming languages: PHP, React, Node.js, Python, and C#
- Experience with frameworks such as ASP.NET, Django, and Laravel
- Advanced skills in WordPress development and customization
- Knowledge of React.js and other modern JavaScript frameworks
- Familiarity with LMS platforms like Moodle or Canvas
- Database expertise in MySQL, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB with knowledge of optimization for educational apps and data security requirements
- Front-end capabilities including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Bootstrap, responsive design, front-end build tools, and version control systems
- Experience in e-learning content development tools
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience in web development
- Background in educational technology field is preferred
- WordPress certification is a plus
