Overview
The Driver role is responsible for ensuring the dependable and safe transportation of authorized personnel, maintaining vehicle condition, and offering administrative and facility assistance. The position requires professionalism, courtesy, discretion, and the ability to collaborate effectively with people from varied cultural backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, reliable, and punctual transport services for authorized individuals and, when necessary, cargo including hazardous materials.
- Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as needed.
- Welcome and assist designated personnel at airports, including help with immigration and customs procedures.
- Maintain precise daily vehicle logs and contribute data for maintenance schedules and usage reports.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections such as checking oil, water levels, battery, brakes, and tires to keep vehicles operational.
- Handle minor vehicle repairs and coordinate substantial repairs as required.
- Ensure cleanliness and roadworthiness of assigned vehicles continuously.
- Maintain safekeeping of essential documents and supplies including insurance papers, registration, logs, maps, office directory, first aid kits, and spare parts.
- Take immediate action following organizational protocols in case of vehicle accidents.
- Assist administrative functions, including procurement processes such as obtaining quotations for office supplies.
- Inspect, manage distribution, and keep inventory records for office supplies and equipment.
- Support facility management via arranging minor repairs, liaising with service providers, and maintaining a roster of artisans.
- Monitor and aid maintenance of office equipment to ensure optimal operation and follow up promptly on utility service requirements.
- Respond swiftly to repair and maintenance requests from authorized staff.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Secondary school diploma or equivalent with at least two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline without prior experience.
- Experience: Proven background in safe and defensive driving alongside basic vehicle repair skills.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and completion of formal driver training.
- Knowledge of local driving laws and regulations is mandatory.
- Preferred: Experience working in multicultural environments or within UN system organizations, particularly in developing nations, and experience in humanitarian or development settings.
