About the Role

Hynds Group is seeking an experienced and hands-on operations leader to oversee the Christchurch Import Distribution Centre. Reporting directly to the National Warehouse Distribution Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the site’s daily operations, ensuring seamless and timely movement of goods, and maintaining high service standards. This role also serves as the Supply Chain representative for the South Island, assisting other Distribution Centres with stock management and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily operations at the Christchurch Import Distribution Centre including inbound and outbound shipments, inventory management, and freight handling.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the warehouse team, fostering a positive and accountable work culture.
  • Plan and coordinate inbound and outbound activities, including workforce resourcing and shift scheduling to ensure efficient operations.
  • Drive delivery performance metrics such as DIFOT (Delivery In Full On Time) and maintain high inventory accuracy through continuous process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards within the warehouse and yard area.
  • Act as the Supply Chain operations liaison for the South Island, providing support to other distribution centres when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Internal Sales, Transport, Vendor Management, and Product Management.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience managing warehouse or distribution centre operations and supervising a team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of DC operations encompassing inbound/outbound goods, inventory control, freight, and warehouse best practices.
  • Strong aptitude for planning and exceptional attention to detail to minimize errors and avoid rework.
  • Deep understanding of import logistics processes and biosecurity regulations.
  • Ability to remain composed while solving problems and making decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to build effective stakeholder relationships across various sites.
  • Committed to upholding health, safety, and ethical standards in the workplace.
