About Marine Rescue Queensland

Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to ensuring safety on the water across Queensland through a statewide network that assists those in distress, educates boaters, and supports emergency services during crises.

Role Overview

As the Director of People & Capability, you will spearhead the strategy that brings together our integrated volunteer service to create a unified MRQ culture. Reporting directly to the Chief Officer, you will be responsible for enhancing volunteer attraction, development, recognition, and retention, fostering a culture defined by high performance, inclusiveness, and respect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of initiatives that attract, recruit, develop, reward, and retain volunteers to improve emergency, safety, preparedness, mitigation, and response services statewide.
  • Drive the advancement of a high-performance culture by integrating strategies in people, culture, and sustainability, enhancing community safety delivery capability.
  • Provide strategic guidance on contemporary volunteerism trends and issues, representing MRQ in forums to achieve positive community outcomes.
  • Cultivate collaborative partnerships within government and non-government sectors to support volunteerism, community safety, and emergency management goals.
  • Represent and negotiate on MRQ's behalf in high-level inter and intra-jurisdictional meetings, coordinating with agencies to increase emergency preparedness and awareness.
  • Oversee human, financial, and physical resource management to ensure client service excellence and performance, promoting accountability and fairness within teams.
  • Manage high-level correspondence, briefing notes, and communications with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with departmental governance.
  • Lead multiple complex projects aligned with strategic priorities, ensuring continuous improvement, effective governance, and organizational risk management.

Requirements

  • Current open ‘C’ Class Queensland Driver's Licence.
  • Proven experience in planning, coordinating, and managing maritime services related to community and marine safety.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Queensland as required to meet service needs.
  • Availability to provide occasional 24/7 support.
  • No formal qualification mandated but relevant experience is essential.

Additional Details
