Role Summary
The Director of Open Innovation will spearhead initiatives to source and integrate leading technologies in food science and technology into CJ CheilJedang's R&D network. This role demands a deep awareness of emerging technologies, robust connections within the innovation landscape, and the capacity to foster collaborations that elevate the company’s innovation capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the open innovation strategy to source top-tier technology that aligns with product and category innovation goals and overall corporate strategy.
- Develop and sustain a global R&D network by engaging with external collaborators, including industry specialists, startups, and research institutions.
- Discover and assess emerging technologies, market trends, and breakthrough innovations relevant to company priorities.
- Analyze the technical viability and distinctiveness of new technologies, ensuring their fit with internal business applications, and identify opportunities for research partnerships with academia and industry players.
- Perform due diligence on prospective partners and technologies from both technical and commercial perspectives to confirm strategic alignment.
- Work closely with internal teams to understand business requirements and to enable efficient adoption of external technologies.
- Lead negotiations for strategic alliances, joint development projects, and technology licensing agreements.
- Oversee budget, resource allocation, and timelines while maintaining compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Candidate Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of the food industry, relevant scientific fields, and emerging tech trends.
- Demonstrated expertise in food innovation, highlighted by successful product launches and market entries.
- Proficient in English, with Korean language skills preferred.
- Excellent networking capabilities and ability to cultivate strong external relationships.
- Experience working cross-functionally and driving impactful outcomes.
- Familiarity with intellectual property and licensing mechanisms.
- Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
- Minimum Master’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; possession of an MBA or PhD is advantageous.
- Proven experience managing external collaborations, technology scouting, or venture partnerships in the food or consumer packaged goods sector is highly desirable.
Work Environment
- Position based in Germany office or available fully remote for candidates located elsewhere.
- Occasional business travel within European countries is expected.
