About the Role
This national-level position for a Data Scientist is offered by the Ministry of Justice UK within Justice Digital, Data and Science. With a decentralized work model, you will have the opportunity to work remotely and at local offices, primarily at 10 South Colonnade, London for eligible staff. The role demands passing a Security Check clearance and involves contributing to a diverse team of around 80 data science professionals dedicated to enhancing decision making through data within the justice system.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust data science solutions using appropriate tools and best practices.
- Ensure sustainability of solutions via documentation, model monitoring, and scheduled re-assessments.
- Collaborate with fellow data scientists applying version control and suitable development operations techniques.
- Present findings and possibilities effectively to a variety of stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of advancements in data science and emerging technologies to inform team practices.
- Promote an inclusive and dynamic work environment within the Data Science and AI Hub.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience implementing data science methods such as machine learning, natural language processing, language models, data visualization, or statistical modeling.
- Strong grounding in probability, statistics, and a keen understanding of model mechanics.
- Proficiency in writing high-quality Python code or the ability to quickly learn Python from other programming backgrounds.
- Competence in using code and/or SQL for data manipulation and extraction.
- Ability to clearly communicate analytical insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capacity to identify relevant data science opportunities to add value.
- Willingness to undergo Security Check clearance as required by the role.
Additional Information
The salary range differs based on location: nationally from £35,335 to £37,847 (plus a possible allowance up to £1,203) and in London from £40,014 to £42,859 (with an allowance up to £474). The hiring grade is HEO with 10 vacancies available for this permanent contract. The working patterns are flexible, including full-time, part-time, and compressed hours.
