Job description

About the Role

This position is titled Accountant (Administrative Officer - Higher Scale) with a salary range of €55,949 to €79,037 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour workweek. The initial contract term is two years with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability. The role reports to the Administrative Manager and is located in County Meath, Ireland. While envisaged as remote work, the role requires occasional attendance at specific locations, organization events or functions nationwide, and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation, management, quality assurance, and amendment of statutory annual accounts or interim accounts and financial management reports according to Government Financial Procedures Guidelines and recognized accounting standards.
  • Providing expert advice to staff on financial management and audit practices.
  • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly reports for funders and related publicity materials reflecting achievement of organizational goals.
  • Supporting the annual audit accounts preparation.
  • Contributing to monthly organizational payroll preparation.
  • Managing income from events and sales via platforms such as Stripe and PayPal.
  • Helping managers administer schemes and grants.
  • Handling monthly travel expenses for staff.
  • Addressing audit-generated tasks as needed.
  • Undertaking any other duties assigned by the Board of Directors appropriate to the role.

Person Specification

  • Possession of full membership in an accounting body regulated by the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification auditing/accounting experience, including management or financial accounting, financial services, fund management, or regulatory environment experience.
  • High-level proficiency in written and spoken Irish.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and motivate relationships with individuals and groups.
  • Outstanding organizational and process management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of the Irish-language sector and community considered an advantage.
  • Full driving license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Capacity to operate both independently and as part of a team.
  • Confidence, self-motivation, creativity, and goal orientation.
  • Knowledge of public sector accounting and financial management systems or a quick aptitude for understanding such systems.
