About the Role

As a Court Security Officer at Nelson District & High Court, you will play a key role in maintaining a secure and safe court environment where justice can be served without fear. This permanent full-time position offers a varied and rewarding work experience involving daily interaction and relationship building with a broad spectrum of people. You will be entrusted to uphold safety in the court precinct and contribute to a supportive team culture.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish and nurture positive relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Conduct security screening, including operating and maintaining CCTV and electronic access systems.
  • Collaborate closely with agencies such as Police, Corrections, legal professionals, and judicial officers to ensure safe court operations.
  • Perform patrols of public spaces, execute building security inspections, respond promptly to duress alarms, and address any security or health and safety concerns.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Previous customer service, security, defense, or government experience is an advantage but not mandatory as comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Confidence and proficiency in using technology.
  • Experience executing de-escalation techniques effectively.
  • Physical capability to successfully complete full-contact officer safety training.
  • Possession and maintenance of a clean full New Zealand driver’s license along with a clear criminal record validated by police vetting.
  • Knowledge and respect of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of cultural, especially Māori Tikanga, perspectives relevant to the role and Ministry’s work.
