About the role
Trade Depot is looking for a Cloud & Data Engineer to help shape the cloud and data base that will support the company’s next stage of growth. Trade Depot is New Zealand’s largest online home improvement retailer, processing tens of thousands of orders each month, so the business needs reliable Azure infrastructure, well-designed data pipelines, a tightly governed Microsoft 365 setup, and systems that store knowledge centrally rather than in individual heads.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support the Azure environment, including Entra ID, security, and access management.
- Take ownership of the data lake design and the pipelines that supply it, with CI/CD embedded into the process.
- Lead the architecture and governance of SharePoint and OneDrive, using existing hardening guidance and a structured cleanup approach.
- Create data foundations that allow AI agents to access company information securely and consistently, with clear permission controls and data quality standards.
- Work closely with the IT Manager and the AI delivery partner to ensure infrastructure decisions align with the Aurora roadmap.
- Keep clear documentation for environments, processes, and access so operational knowledge is captured in systems.
- Support and coach the internal IT team as the business builds more capability.
What you will bring
- Background in cloud engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure, with Microsoft Azure experience preferred.
- Strong capability in CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
- Practical experience with data pipelines and containerised workloads.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and OneDrive architecture and governance, or strong willingness to learn quickly.
- Comfort engaging directly with business leaders as well as technical teams.
- A grounded, fundamentals-first mindset, with focus on building the right infrastructure before scaling AI use cases.
- Ability to work from Auckland or attend the office regularly on site.
Why this role
This position offers the chance to influence the cloud and data foundation of a fast-growing, fully New Zealand-owned company. You will have direct exposure to the CEO, Directors, and IT Manager, rather than being one of many in a large engineering team. For the right person, there is also a genuine pathway from contract to permanent employment.
Application note
Applicants are asked to send a CV along with a brief summary of their Azure, data, and CI/CD experience.
