Job description
Position Overview
The role of Cashier at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank's Branch Banking department involves overseeing all cash transactions and operations in accordance with banking norms. The position operates full-time under the supervision of the Branch Operation Manager at the branch location in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth branch functionality by promptly and accurately processing cash-related transactions and managing account maintenance.
- Handle the branch's entire cash management function including receipts and processing of cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders, and other withdrawal instruments within authorized limits, issuing acknowledgements accordingly.
- Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and accept cash deposits with proper documentation.
- Collect repayments as per the EMI schedules, while maintaining accurate system entries.
- Maintain various registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and assets, and coordinate requisition forms to the Regional Head Office.
- Perform daily reconciliation of cash balances against transaction records and vouchers, and report findings in the end-of-day branch report.
- Sharing responsibility with the operations officer for cash handling and vault maintenance.
- Provide customer interaction during transactions to understand their needs, promote bank products/services, and cross-sell opportunities.
Customer Service Quality
- Deliver courteous, efficient responses to customer needs and provide superior service quality.
- Escalate customer issues and grievances to appropriate authorities promptly.
- Clarify customers on repayment schedules and provide contact details for further queries courteously.
- Educate customers about alternative channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries.
Operations Management
- Count and verify cash at start and end of day before vaulting.
- Safeguard branch cash, keys, and valuables jointly with the Assistant Branch Manager to ensure smooth operation of the cash department.
- Adhere to turnaround times for all transactions strictly.
- Comply with applicable regulations and bank policies related to cash operations and cashier processes.
- Account for and verify loan repayment transactions.
- Confirm identity of customers during cash withdrawals and accuracy of deposit slips for audit purposes.
- Update bank passbooks as necessary during transactions.
- Manage currency chest deposits with appropriate documentation.
Learning and Development
- Stay updated on Ujjivan’s products, services, regulations, and KYC norms.
- Complete operations department certification and mandatory training programs.
- Meet deadlines for goal setting, mid-year reviews, and performance appraisals.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate in any field, preferably Finance or Commerce.
- At least 1-2 years experience handling high-volume cash transactions.
- Experience using financial software modules or ERP systems.
- Proficient in consolidating accounting data.
