Advisor, Health and Safety - Infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site field inspections, safety audits, and hazard identification to guide leadership decisions.
• Assist operational and functional leaders in managing safety risks to prevent fatalities, injuries, and occupational illnesses.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure Supervisors, Engineers, and Contractors to assess and address operational and project risks.
• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of Newmont's Always Safe strategy, particularly focusing on underground air quality fatality risk standards.
• Provide hands-on safety coaching and training, demonstrating appropriate safety methodologies and proper equipment use, including hazard assessments and incident investigations.
• Implement safety procedures tailored to site conditions and ensure all employees are trained and compliant.
• Support frontline leaders in executing safe work practices and fostering workforce engagement in health and safety improvements.
• Coordinate Occupational Health and Safety representative programs and support first line of defense assurance for safety processes and standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary degree in Health and Safety or Engineering.
• NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Senior Health Safety and Environmental Officer’s Certificate from the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
• Valid Class B Ghanaian Driver’s License.
• A minimum of five years of health and safety experience in mining, particularly with underground operations, fixed plants, projects, utilities, or maintenance.
• Experience supporting critical underground infrastructure such as ventilation, pumping, fuel storage, explosive magazines, electrical substations, compressors, workshops, and service bays is highly preferred.

Additional Skills and Knowledge

• Comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance related to underground mining infrastructure.
• Experience with commissioning, construction, or infrastructure projects within mining operations.
• Strong expertise in risk assessment, loss prevention, investigation processes, and change management principles.
• Effective communication and influencing capabilities.
• Ability to assess risks specifically associated with underground infrastructure like pumping stations and fuel facilities.
• Basic proficiency in operational risk management, project management, and data analysis for performance monitoring.
