The School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) provides a highly encouraging environment for academic work, applied research and development, and innovative teaching. The school has more than 40 tenure-track faculty members spanning computer science and engineering as well as information systems management. They are supported by over 30 practice and education faculty members focused on teaching, translation, and pedagogical research.

School Focus and Academic Programmes

SCIS is committed to work that is both academically strong and practically useful. Industry settings serve as real-world testing grounds for experimentation and as sources of fresh ideas. Faculty and students apply their research to practical problems and build IT systems and applications for a range of sectors. The school also contributes actively to top computer science and management science conferences and journals.

SCIS offers doctoral programmes in Information Systems and Computer Science, along with a Doctor of Engineering (EngD) launched in 2020 to prepare IT leaders with the technical depth needed to design, innovate, and manage complex systems. It also runs the Master of IT in Business (MITB), a professionally oriented coursework programme built around data analytics, technology platforms, and business strategy. The MITB specialisations include Financial Technology & Analytics, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Transformation. At the undergraduate level, SCIS offers B.Sc. programmes in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computing & Law, and Software Engineering, and has built a strong track record of educational innovation, industry partnerships, job placement, and student entrepreneurship.

Role Summary

SMU is looking for an Adjunct Faculty member to teach postgraduate courses within Information Systems and Computer Science, especially within the MITB programme.

Candidate Profile

The preferred candidate should hold a Master’s degree or PhD from a respected university in a closely related field. Suitable backgrounds include Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Statistics, Management Science, Decision Sciences, Marketing Analytics, Computational Physics, Computational Engineering, or similar disciplines.

Strong communication abilities are essential. A genuine interest in both learning and teaching is also important. Experience in consulting, training, or teaching will be considered a strong plus.
