Position Summary

The role of the Flagger involves managing the safe and efficient flow of traffic near construction zones, road maintenance sites, and other work areas. Key duties include placing and removing traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades, employing hand signals and stop/slow paddles to direct vehicles, and ensuring safety protocols for workers and the public are upheld. The job requires standing and walking for prolonged durations in variable weather, handling equipment exceeding 50 pounds, and operating company vehicles for equipment transport.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy and remove traffic signs, cones, and barricades to reroute traffic safely around work sites.
• Use stop/slow paddles effectively to control traffic movements.
• Maintain consistent communication with team members via two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and perform reaching motions for extended hours, sometimes up to 10 hours daily.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver objects over 50 pounds as required.
• Drive company vehicles to deliver traffic control materials to job locations.
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
• Work amid outdoor conditions that include exposure to weather, machinery, moving vehicles, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate to loud noise levels.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
• Successful clearance of background screening including motor vehicle records is required.
• Must pass a drug test and conform to federal Department of Transportation standards.
• Must wear safety equipment including work boots with safety toes, hard hat, safety glasses, and reflective safety vest.
• Proficiency in operating two-way radios for communication.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather and traffic conditions.
• Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with contractors and internal teams ensuring excellent customer service.
• Capability to collaborate within a team environment effectively.
• Dependable attendance, reliable personal transportation, and a robust work ethic are essential.
• Completion of ATSSA Flagger training and company-led Defensive Driver training is required.
• Willingness to travel across the state, including overnight stays, and availability during nights and weekends as project needs dictate.
• Flexibility to participate in a rotating on-call schedule as needed.
