SVP, Strategy, Innovation, & System Integration

Overview

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategy, Innovation, and System Integration acts as a top-tier executive accountable for guiding and overseeing enterprise-wide strategic planning, innovation projects, and system integration for Appalachian Regional Healthcare. This includes managing corporate development, strategic partnerships, venture initiatives, and the Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO), among other critical strategic responsibilities.

Collaborating closely with executive and operational leaders, Board members, external partners, and other key stakeholders, the SVP identifies transformative strategic opportunities, assesses new technologies and care models, promotes collaboration, and ensures successful execution and monitoring of initiatives that enhance organizational performance, support patient outcomes, and uphold ARH’s long-term mission and sustainability.

Aligned with ARH’s Executive Level 2 (E2) framework, the role holds broad organizational influence, responsible for shaping and implementing long-term strategic programs that drive innovation, organizational change, and sustainable expansion across the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive enterprise-wide strategy, innovation, and system integration initiatives.
• Lead long-term and annual strategic planning cycles and align these plans with organizational goals, financial planning, and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with leadership to oversee the progress and outcomes of transformation projects enterprise-wide.
• Champion a culture centered on innovation, accountability, partnership, and continuous improvement.
• Evaluate and pursue strategic growth opportunities, including partnerships, affiliations, and mergers and acquisitions.
• Support business development efforts and assist in negotiating strategic agreements.
• Co-manage ARH Impact Ventures and shape an innovation portfolio aligned with the organization’s mission and vision.
• Assess investment prospects and promote relationships with innovation ecosystem partners.
• Provide leadership to the Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO), ensuring governance, priority alignment, and effective delivery of strategic projects.
• Advise CFO and senior executives with strategic updates, investment analyses, and recommendations for Board presentations.
• Maintain compliance with ARH policies and embody organizational values in all engagements.
• Foster positive interactions with patients, families, staff, and community allies.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Strategic Management, or related discipline.
• At least ten years in progressively senior executive roles involving healthcare strategy, corporate development, innovation leadership, or enterprise transformation within complex, multi-site health systems.
• Proven experience with enterprise strategic planning, organizational change, business growth initiatives, and systemic performance enhancement.
• A history of partnering effectively with executive teams and Boards on organizational strategy and overseeing enterprise-wide projects or governance structures.
• Familiarity with evaluating strategic partnerships, M&A, venture projects, or emerging healthcare technologies is preferred.
• Strong skills in strategic leadership, financial analysis, organizational systems thinking, and business operations.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and executive influence capabilities.
• Ability to use data analytics and performance indicators to enable informed leadership decisions.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; experience with business intelligence, data visualization, and project management software is advantageous.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent executive project management experience is favored.
