The position of Surveyor I represents an entry-level opportunity suitable for recent graduates or professionals with under five years' experience within relevant industries. Under the supervision of a senior surveyor, this role involves conducting standard surveying activities including inspecting vessels and marine structures during and post-construction to ensure adherence to classification standards, statutory mandates, and specialized certification requirements related to safety, loadline, tonnage, cargo gear, and pollution prevention.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a technical expert in applying applicable rules, regulations, principles, and operational processes within the organization.
Conduct routine inspections and surveys on classified vessels, offshore platforms, and manufacturers to verify compliance with classification and statutory standards.
Compile comprehensive, precise, and timely inspection and survey documentation.
Engage with clients to address technical issues within the realm of expertise.
Maintain accurate and organized survey records and files.
Acquire skills related to office administrative functions and performance monitoring at designated ports.
Progressively expand technical knowledge and understanding of field operations, policies, and procedural methodologies through increasingly challenging assignments.

Qualifications and Experience

Possession of tertiary education credentials in engineering or physical sciences from programs lasting at least two years; or
Marine or nautical qualifications combined with relevant seagoing experience as a certified ship officer.
English language proficiency suitable for statutory certification responsibilities.
Certifications or licenses pertinent to specific areas of specialization may be necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to acquire knowledge of classification rules, guides, statutory regulations, and organizational safety policies.
Competency in interpreting engineering drawings and basic understanding of shipbuilding and vessel operational practices.
Capability to perform standard surveys following prescribed procedures.
Familiarity with computer software relevant to the responsibilities.
Understanding of technical interfaces required for collaborative projects.
Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery.
Effective verbal and written communication skills conveying technical information accurately.
Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
Customer responsiveness and teamwork ability.
Willingness to learn and comply with health, safety, quality, and environmental management systems.

Physical Requirements

Completion of a pre-employment physical examination may be required where permitted by local regulations.
The role involves sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, and sensory acuity to perform duties effectively.
Must be capable of climbing ladders up to 9 meters and navigating steep stairs.
Ability to work at heights on staging and lifting equipment is essential.
Comfortable maneuvering in confined spaces with frequent kneeling and crawling.
Exposure to industrial environments, potential hazards, severe weather, and physically demanding tasks is expected.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs (approximately 11.34 kg).
Proper use of personal protective equipment as per safety guidelines.
Annual physical recertification may be mandated where legally applicable.
