Advent Risk Management Ltd operates as a Managing General Agent (MGA) specializing in underwriting surety bonds across Ireland, the UK, and Europe on behalf of an A-rated insurance company and a network of global reinsurers. The company is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland and has its primary office located at Percy Place in Dublin 4. The team is largely office-based with some flexibility for remote working.
Role Overview
The Surety Underwriter will be accountable for underwriting both new and renewal surety bond applications, fostering relationships with brokers and clients, and assessing financial and non-financial risks linked to surety bonds. The position requires experience in underwriting, credit analysis, or comparable fields, with a preference for candidates knowledgeable of the Irish construction or financial sectors.
Key Duties
- Underwrite new and existing surety bond applications thoroughly.
- Conduct detailed financial and risk analyses of applicants.
- Review and evaluate contractual obligations, industry specifics, and legal frameworks.
- Make underwriting decisions within authorized limits and prepare submissions for higher approval if needed.
- Develop and maintain strong broker, agent, and client relationships.
- Negotiate conditions that appropriately balance client requirements and risk management standards.
- Monitor the performance of the underwriting portfolio and manage exposure proactively.
- Participate in creating products, improving internal processes, and contributing to strategic initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in surety underwriting, credit underwriting, or commercial financial risk analysis.
- Proficiency in financial evaluation and analysis, including interpreting financial statements.
- Familiarity with legal contracts, insurance principles, and Irish regulatory policies is preferred.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a tight-knit team.
- Experience in the surety markets within Ireland or Europe is highly desirable.
