Structural Engineer

About the Role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its high-performance Buildings team in Christchurch, New Zealand. This role involves designing, documenting, and delivering innovative structural projects across the country. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with clients, architects, and industry partners while ensuring technical quality across projects. Leadership duties include mentoring junior engineers and checking team outputs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead as a Project Engineer on various sizes of projects, including supervising small teams of engineers and technicians.
• Establish and agree upon design philosophies and fundamental approaches.
• Review and provide feedback on deliverables produced by team members at critical project stages.
• Apply knowledge of concept and detailed design, construction methods, procurement strategies, risk assessment, and claims evaluation.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience across diverse building projects with a strong grasp of structural behavior, design management, and construction phases. Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable. Applicants should be motivated to grow into formal leadership roles within the buildings division.
