Software Development Manager III, Simple Email Service

Role Overview

The Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) team is committed to transforming email experiences by developing advanced and engaging features, offering a unified and enhanced service. This role involves managing a dynamic, growing program with broad impact, working closely with customers and Amazon's tech leaders to turn strategic objectives into innovative projects and features. You'll lead and guide a team of Software Development Engineers (SDEs) to deliver high-quality, fault-tolerant distributed systems related to email technology.

Leadership and Engineering Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate scalable and resilient web and distributed systems.
• Oversee and direct the engineering team's work to ensure on-time delivery with desired quality and functionality.
• Promote responsible AI usage and integrate intelligent tools into daily engineering practices.
• Mentor and develop engineers, fostering professional growth, knowledge sharing, and a culture of creativity and openness.
• Handle on-call duties to maintain system reliability, working collaboratively to address root causes to avoid repeated incidents.

Basic Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of engineering experience.
• At least 3 years managing engineering teams, including mentorship and career development.
• Strong understanding of software/hardware/network development life cycles encompassing coding standards, code reviews, source control, build systems, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Proficiency in leveraging modern development tools, automation, or AI-driven technologies to streamline workflows, boost operational reliability, or improve decision-making.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on large-scale web and distributed systems.
• Proven skills in designing and operating fault-tolerant distributed architectures.
