Role summary
The Site Civil Engineer will manage day-to-day engineering tasks on groundworks and civil engineering sites, making sure work follows design drawings, safety standards, and the project programme. The position involves setting out, surveying, checking works, coordinating with site management, subcontractors, and client-side teams, and resolving technical issues that arise on site. The engineer will also help plan the sequence of works, support quality control, prepare reports, and contribute to health and safety compliance. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Mullingar.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day site engineering duties across groundworks and civil engineering projects.
- Set out works accurately and use surveying tools to monitor site progress.
- Check that construction activity is being delivered in line with design requirements and programme targets.
- Liaise with site managers, subcontractors, and client representatives to keep work coordinated.
- Review drawings and technical information and help solve engineering issues on site.
- Assist with planning and sequencing site activities to support smooth delivery.
- Contribute to quality control inspections and site reporting.
- Support compliance with health, safety, and construction quality standards.
Requirements
- A strong grounding in civil engineering, with skills relevant to groundworks and infrastructure delivery.
- Ability to work effectively with a wider site team, including civil engineers, QS staff, and safety personnel.
- Good understanding of project planning, drawing interpretation, and site coordination.
- Knowledge of stormwater management and related drainage systems is an advantage.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
- Confidence using setting-out and surveying equipment, and reading technical drawings.
- Awareness of health, safety, and quality expectations in construction environments.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Previous exposure to residential, commercial, or infrastructure groundworks projects in Ireland would be beneficial.
