Role Overview

We invite applications for an experienced Senior Bridge Design Engineer to lead the design and drafting efforts for railway bridges, specifically Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB). This role requires expertise in railway bridge design standards and AutoCAD proficiency to deliver compliant, submission-ready drawings without involvement in site execution or construction supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and detailing of General Arrangement Drawings (GADs), structural drawings, and reinforcement plans for railway bridge projects.
  • Create and review designs for PSC girders, composite bridges, ROBs, RUBs, piers, abutments, foundations, and related bridge structures ensuring precision in plans, elevations, and sections.
  • Ensure all designs adhere strictly to Indian Railways standards, including RDSO, IRS, IRC codes, and Schedule of Dimensions (SOD), covering loading, clearances, and structural safety.
  • Collaborate closely with structural, track, alignment, and hydraulics teams to integrate technical inputs and confirm analysis outputs are accurately reflected in drawings.
  • Supervise and mentor junior bridge engineers and drafting personnel; meticulously review their work for technical correctness and compliance.
  • Engage with clients, railway authorities, DFCCIL, RDSO, and external consultants, attending meetings and handling design clarifications and revisions promptly.
  • Manage documentation such as BOQs, design notes, drawing inventories, and maintain thorough records of revisions and approvals.
  • Monitor project progression, enforcing quality controls, and addressing any design risks in coordination with relevant teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.E./B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering is mandatory; M.E./M.Tech specialization in Structural or Bridge Engineering is advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of professional experience focusing on bridge design, with preference for railway infrastructure projects.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2D is essential.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Auto LISP, BIM software, or similar design tools is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of railway bridge components including PSC and composite girders, piers, abutments, foundations, bearings, and compliance with SOD clearances.
  • Knowledge of IRS Concrete and Steel Bridge Codes, IRC standards (IRC:5, IRC:6, IRC:112), RDSO guidelines, and Indian Railways standards.

Additional Skills

  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional capability to review drawings and identify errors.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and client coordination aptitude.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines with close attention to detail.

Exclusions in Role

  • This position excludes routine site construction supervision and contractor coordination.
  • No responsibilities for material procurement, site quantity surveying, or billing tasks.

Key Deliverables

  • Accurate and submission-ready GADs and structural drawings for railway bridges.
  • Review and approval of subordinates’ design outputs ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Timely management of comments and revision submissions to Railway/RDSO/clients.
  • Approval and documentation of railway bridge design files, maintaining detailed revision and correspondence records.
