Role overview
This is an opportunity for an energetic, adaptable and committed Research Practitioner to join several research-active teams. The post is focused on helping deliver a wide range of clinical trials across different areas within the Trust.
You will report to the Trust Commercial Research Manager and provide comprehensive administrative support for research activity. The role requires flexibility to assist colleagues across multiple research specialties, along with a solid grasp of clinical research practice and the legislation that governs clinical trials.
The position is primarily based at York Hospital, although you may occasionally be asked to work from other Trust sites and GP surgeries when needed.
This role suits someone who enjoys busy, varied work and wants to build practical experience in clinical trials while contributing meaningfully to research delivery. It would also be a strong development step for a current clinical trials assistant or someone with similar experience.
If you are applying as an internal candidate for a secondment, you must have approval from your current line manager.
Key duties
The post involves keeping study files and related documentation up to date, booking patient appointments, retrieving test results and medical records, gathering and sending trial data, and preparing reports on study progress.
You will also support Research Nurses and AHPs in clinical activity where appropriate, including screening participants, obtaining consent, and recruiting patients into studies, based on your own knowledge, capability and competence.
Experience and communication
Previous experience of at least 2 years in clinical research would be an advantage, together with knowledge of the essential standards involved in designing and running clinical trials.
The role demands tact, professionalism and sensitivity when speaking with patients who may be seriously unwell or distressed. You will also need to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels across hospital departments, as well as with sponsors, Research Network staff and other NHS Trusts.
Staff benefits
- Membership of the NHS Pension Scheme, with retirement benefits plus provision for dependants
