Renewables & Energy Storage Engineer

Role overview

Join a technically oriented position within Aurecon’s Power Generation team, contributing to utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and renewable energy projects in New Zealand, Australia, and other regions. This role supports the delivery of the next generation of clean energy infrastructure and works across the complete project lifecycle.

What you will be doing

• Provide engineering input for large-scale BESS and renewable power projects.
• Contribute from early feasibility studies through detailed design and final project delivery.
• Work alongside civil, structural, geotechnical, and electrical subject matter experts.
• Assist with procurement, tender assessments, and technical review processes.
• Carry out technical risk reviews and support lender due diligence work.
• Examine contractor and OEM documents to confirm design quality and compliance.
• Prepare scopes of work, proposals, and technical solutions tailored to client needs.

Requirements and experience

• A relevant engineering degree or qualification, preferably in electrical engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in the power or renewable energy industry.
• Hands-on exposure to BESS projects and grid connection infrastructure.
• Solid knowledge of electrical infrastructure and power systems.
• Strong analytical thinking and clear technical communication skills.
• A collaborative, innovative mindset suited to project delivery.
