Role Overview
The position of Refinery Operator is a full-time, on-site job at AL Global Refinery Kampala. This role entails overseeing refinery units such as distillation and associated processing equipment to maintain safe and efficient operations. Daily responsibilities include initiating, halting, and adjusting machinery, monitoring gauges and instruments, logging operational data, and responding to alerts or irregular conditions. The operator also conducts routine inspections, assists in diagnosing operational and equipment issues, and adheres to established operating procedures, safety protocols, and environmental guidelines.
Additionally, the role involves working collaboratively with maintenance and engineering teams, engaging in shift transitions, and contributing to continuous improvement and reliability projects.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive understanding of refinery operations and unit processes.
- Practical experience with distillation systems and petroleum processing techniques.
- Proficient in troubleshooting operational and machinery-related problems within a refinery context.
- Knowledgeable about safety, health, and environmental regulations pertinent to petroleum refining.
- Possession of a technical diploma or degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Prior experience in refinery or process plant operations, ideally within industrial or energy sectors.
- Capability to work in shifts, accurately follow procedures, and maintain detailed operational documentation.
- Effective communication skills, strong teamwork orientation, and eagerness to engage in continuous learning.
