Role overview
Amey is looking for a permanent Reactive Caretaker / Janitor to support its Northampton Schools account. The role is mobile across the schools in the portfolio, and a company van with a fuel card will be provided.
The working pattern is flexible between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday to Sunday, with five working days out of seven. The position is for 37.5 hours per week.
Amey provides facilities and estate management services to the Northampton Schools Private Finance Initiative, covering an estate of 42 schools, including five secondary schools and 37 primary schools. The focus is on creating safe, clean, compliant, and high-quality learning environments where teachers can teach effectively and students can learn and develop.
The organisation works closely with clients and end users to deliver 24/7 services to a high standard while keeping disruption to school operations to a minimum. Amey also places strong emphasis on flexibility, work-life balance, and working patterns that suit different needs.
Key duties
- Keep the school premises operating smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
- Carry out practical maintenance, basic DIY tasks, and minor repairs, including work on furniture, fixtures, and wall surfaces.
- Check that heating, lighting, and alarm systems are functioning correctly.
- Make sure doors and windows are secured when the building is not in use.
- Monitor the premises to help protect against vandalism.
- Set up and clear chairs and tables for meetings and assemblies.
- Carry out litter picking and keep external areas tidy.
What the role requires
- Practical DIY ability and previous experience handling minor repairs.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work shifts.
- Confidence in building positive working relationships with on-site clients and colleagues.
- Support for local and business zero-carbon initiatives where appropriate, working in a strategic and efficient way.
- Responsibility for meeting health and safety standards across the contract.
- A valid UK driving licence.
