Role Overview and Responsibilities

As a Project Manager at Cognite, you will be fully accountable for leading critical industrial AI projects from contract initiation to successful deployment and achievement of business outcomes. Your role involves ensuring projects perfectly align with customer priorities and deliver measurable value.

• Own the complete project delivery lifecycle, managing scope, budget, quality, and customer impact to ensure success and financial health.
• Convert use case goals into measurable business key performance indicators (KPIs) and guide Value Realization Workshops to benchmark and validate impact.
• Create thorough project plans covering all aspects including timeline, resources, budget, risks, and quality, proactively resolving dependencies and blockers.
• Manage complex system integrations that connect operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) data sources, applying agile approaches and maintaining ongoing stakeholder engagement.
• Ensure that project goals support customers' strategic initiatives such as improving operational excellence, safety, sustainability, or lowering costs through frequent reporting and executive updates.
• Keep Account Executives, Customer Business Executives, and other stakeholders informed about project progress, scope alterations, risks, and financial metrics to maintain transparency.
• Collaborate closely with the Product team to address any gaps in features or deliverables promised in customer contracts, escalating issues to appropriate governance channels to preserve commitments and satisfaction.
• Handle all financial aspects of projects including bookings, revenue recognition, cost monitoring, margin analysis, and forecasting, reporting regularly to the Portfolio Manager.
• Serve as the primary contact for customers throughout the project, facilitating governance, leading steering committee meetings, and providing clear executive communication.
• Manage customer satisfaction follow-ups, oversee vendor partnerships, and ensure process documentation is up to date.
• Drive change management efforts such as user training and adoption support in partnership with Customer Business Executives.
• Act as a liaison between clients and internal teams like Engineering, Product, and Customer Success to align expectations, manage risks, and resolve issues continuously.
• Identify growth and expansion opportunities by understanding client challenges and coordinating with relevant Cognite teams.
• Utilize Cognite's PMO playbooks and best practices while contributing to ongoing process improvements and lessons learned.

Impact and Expectations

• Prioritize delivering measurable value through clear connections between project outputs and business benefits, tracking KPIs and sharing data-driven results to reinforce trust and partnerships.
• Ensure timely, within-budget project completions managing multi-stakeholder, complex system integrations with agile methodologies and continuous communication.
• Demonstrate strong stakeholder management by influencing technical and business leaders to align toward shared objectives through leadership without formal authority.
• Serve as a connection point across clients and internal teams managing clear communication, expectations, and risk resolution.
• Provide regular updates to key stakeholders including Account Executives and Customer Business Executives on project status, risks, and financial performance.
• Promote scalability by gathering feedback, capturing lessons learned, and driving improvements for future projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years project management experience, ideally within SaaS, cloud, or enterprise software environments, managing complex industrial or IT/AI projects.
• Proven expertise with SaaS implementation lifecycles, including onboarding, training, and facilitating change management.
• Experience overseeing cross-functional teams comprising Data Scientists, Engineers, and Solution Architects.
• Deep knowledge of industrial sectors such as Energy, Manufacturing, Chemicals, Oil & Gas, Life Sciences, Utilities/Power, and Renewables.
• Strong financial skills related to project tracking, realization, and forecasting.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and PMO methodologies like PMP or PRINCE2 to manage project risk and delivery in dynamic environments.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficiency in project management software tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or Smartsheet.
• Ability to travel up to 25% for client engagements.
• Fluency in English and German is required.

Preferred Experience

• Certifications in PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile/Scrum frameworks.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), industrial IoT, and data platforms.
• Exposure to data engineering, analytics, AI, or machine learning projects.
