What the role involves
Prison officers do not follow a routine day; situations can change quickly and you may take on a range of responsibilities across the course of a shift. In one moment you may be maintaining order, and in the next you may be offering guidance, support, or encouragement.
You will work directly with prisoners in a secure environment and contribute to the safety of the prison, the people held there, and the staff who work on site.

You should be comfortable building professional, constructive relationships with offenders, including those who may be at a very low point in their lives.
Strong teamwork is essential, and you will need to be fully committed to working closely with colleagues to help keep everyone safe.

Training, growth and support
You will receive structured training and be given opportunities to progress and develop, including the option to specialise in different areas over time.
Benefits

Why people choose this career
Beyond the practical rewards, the job offers a strong sense of purpose and achievement, particularly when you help someone turn their life around and move back on track.
Application note
If this sounds like the right fit for your skills and values, you are encouraged to apply.
