Position Summary
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for a full-time Performance Dietitian role within its Intercollegiate Athletics Department. This position involves planning, executing, overseeing, and assessing nutrition services aimed at optimizing the performance of collegiate student-athletes at UCLA.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver personalized medical nutrition therapy and conduct team and departmental educational sessions to improve performance of competitive collegiate athletes across various intercollegiate sports.
- Collaborate as an integral member of a multidisciplinary sports medicine and sports science team, including athletic trainers, physicians, performance coaches, psychologists, and team staff, to coordinate nutritional care.
- Address nutrition-related challenges affecting performance such as those related to dining hall options, hydration strategies, grocery shopping, and travel-related nutrition planning.
- Manage the performance fueling program coordinating with travel and operations departments to provide input on travel snacks, hydration, and meal plans.
- Organize periodic cooking classes focused on educating student-athletes about nutrition and meal preparation.
- Participate in patient care meetings and partner with the Health Performance and Wellness staff on individual and departmental health programs.
- Adhere strictly to policies and regulatory frameworks governed by the department, university, NCAA, and Big Ten Conference.
Candidate Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nutrition or Exercise Physiology is preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience as a Registered Dietitian within a collegiate environment is required; two to three years in collegiate or professional settings is preferred.
- Registered Dietitian credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is mandatory.
- Certification as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) from the CDR is preferred.
- Demonstrated compliance with HIPAA and ServSafe food service standards.
- Proficiency in delivering medical nutrition therapy tailored to sports-related nutrition concerns.
- Ability to document clinical encounters accurately in electronic medical records.
- Strong organizational skills to manage dynamic priorities and workloads effectively and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with a culturally diverse student and staff population.
- Comprehensive understanding of and ability to comply with NCAA rules and regulations.
Additional Information
- Salary is targeted at $72,240 annually with full health benefits and eligibility for UC Retirement Plan membership.
