Role Overview
Rippling’s Employer of Record (EOR) equity services team manages the complexities of equity-related payroll, tax, and compliance for clients hiring globally. The Payroll Specialist role involves applying payroll expertise specifically to equity compensation such as stock options and RSUs for EOR customers, ensuring accurate tax withholding and reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide clients on accurately recording equity-related taxable income within payroll systems, detailing appropriate earnings codes and processing regular or off-cycle pay runs.
- Execute payroll processing of equity income events, verifying correct tax and social contribution treatment per country regulations.
- Audit pay statements to ensure equity income, withholdings, and contributions are precise.
- Calculate and confirm withholding amounts, net pay effects, and employer costs related to equity payroll transactions.
- Communicate clearly to clients and employees regarding how equity income influences payroll calculations, tax withholdings, and pay statement disclosures.
- Assist with compliance filings for equity payroll across countries (e.g., UK ERS, Ireland RSS1, Australia ESS), including data gathering, submission, and follow-up with authorities.
- Maintain and update procedural documentation, trackers, and internal resources supporting equity payroll and compliance processes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Over 5 years' experience in payroll operations, tax compliance, or related fields with exposure to multi-country payroll and handling of non-cash or imputed income such as benefits or equity compensation.
- Understanding of how non-cash compensation integrates into payroll calculations and reporting; prior equity payroll experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong analytical skills for validating payroll calculations including withholding and reporting accuracy.
- Experience resolving payroll system errors and collaborating with technical teams.
- Ability to interpret complex tax or legal regulations and translate them into operational payroll procedures.
- Excellent written communication, capable of simplifying technical payroll concepts for diverse audiences.
- High attention to detail managing complex data, deadlines, and cross-department coordination.
- Adaptability to dynamic, fast-paced environments with evolving workflows.
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets with advanced functions like pivot tables and formulas; experience with case management tools such as Salesforce.
