Role overview
John Hardy is hiring a Merchandiser to support growth across key national account stores in the NYC metro area. In this role, you will act as the on-the-ground link between the accounts and the National Account Executive, helping execute in-store sales plans, reinforce merchandising standards, and support store teams through training and events.
This position involves substantial travel and regular interaction with store leaders, stylists, and sales associates. You will be expected to strengthen relationships, improve in-store presentation, and help drive product performance and brand visibility across assigned locations.
Key responsibilities
- Travel frequently, with up to 70% of time spent visiting accounts.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with store teams by understanding their priorities and responding to their needs proactively.
- Keep all locations aligned with John Hardy merchandising standards.
- Make sure backstock is brought to the sales floor and that inventory is polished and presentation-ready.
- Train sales teams on brand knowledge and effective selling techniques.
- Work closely with store leadership and styling teams.
- Position John Hardy as a leading jewelry brand within each location.
- Negotiate and help secure optimal floor placement for products.
- Support improvements in product productivity and sell-through.
- Carry out ad hoc requests from the John Hardy team.
- Deliver three formal brand trainings each year at account locations.
- Visit all regional locations in February, June, and September to conduct structured training sessions that inform and inspire store teams.
- Support quarterly brand events in selected stores.
- Assist with planning, clienteling, and broader traffic-driving initiatives.
- Merchandise product and provide support to the jewelry department in driving sales.
- Manage event-day execution when required.
- Organize in-store visit calendars, book travel, schedule appointments, and prepare pre-visit agendas.
- Track travel spending and manage expenses against budget.
- Prepare post-visit recaps and follow up on next steps.
- Join weekly virtual check-ins with the John Hardy team.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 2 years of experience in luxury sales or a related industry is expected.
- Strong drive and self-motivation, especially in a luxury retail environment.
- Ability to identify client needs and provide support that contributes to business growth.
- Strong organization, collaboration, and team orientation.
- Experience handling budgets, sales activity, and account relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with careful attention to detail.
- Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Analytical, structured thinking with the ability to build sales strategies and follow them through with retail partners.
- A positive, authentic, cooperative, and humble approach that helps build enthusiasm and teamwork.
- Ability to create strong customer experiences that encourage loyalty and measurable business results.
- Willingness to work outside standard business hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 20 lb.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
