Junior Systems Administrator

Job Overview

We are seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to join our team supporting the daily management, monitoring, and upkeep of IT infrastructure for one of our clients. This position is suited for candidates early in their careers who have keen interest in system operations and foundational development or scripting. It provides opportunities to develop skills in a DevOps-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in managing servers, applications, and system platforms.
• Monitor system uptime, performance metrics, and logs; respond promptly to alerts and incidents.
• Deliver Level 1 and Level 2 support for system and application issues.
• Support backup operations and basic disaster recovery processes.
• Help with system updates, patch installations, and planned maintenance tasks.
• Run simple scripts or automation tools for routine operational activities.
• Perform straightforward database queries to support validation, reporting, or troubleshooting.
• Comply with defined protocols for incident, problem, and change management.
• Document configuration settings, scripts, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate closely with senior system administrators, developers, and support personnel.
• Be willing to work in shifts as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Between zero and two years of professional experience in system administration, IT support, or similar technical roles.
• Fundamental knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, or JavaScript.
• Basic familiarity with Linux and/or Windows Server operating environments.
• Understanding core system administration concepts including services, user permissions, and access controls.
• General networking knowledge covering IP addressing, DNS, port usage, and firewall basics.
• Awareness of monitoring, logging, and backup principles.
• Basic scripting abilities including PowerShell or Bash for automation, Python or comparable scripting languages, and introductory SQL for data querying and validation.
• Capability to interpret, comprehend, and modify straightforward code or scripts.
