Primary Responsibilities
- Perform sweeping, damp mopping, and wet mopping of tile floors; occasionally spray buff, strip, or wax floors in accordance with center procedures and safety signage requirements
- Report carpet areas needing cleaning or stain removal to supervisor
- Vacuum carpets in appropriate areas
- Dust and damp clean surfaces including furniture, bedframes, windowsills in patient rooms, adhering to infection control and safety standards
- Empty and clean trash cans inside and out, replacing liners as needed
- Clean bathroom fixtures including sinks, toilets, and related hardware
- Clean glass surfaces such as mirrors, pictures, and windows
- Move furniture to clean underneath and behind as required
- Turn bed mattresses following cleaning
- Clean dining areas after meals by wiping tables, sweeping, and mopping
- Change and rehang soiled privacy curtains and exterior window draperies using appropriate safety precautions like ladders
- Sweep exterior porches and walkways, and pick up improperly disposed trash
- Follow established cleaning schedules and infection control protocols, including use of isolation techniques where indicated
- Treat patients and their belongings with respect and uphold patient rights during cleaning activities
- Secure cleaning chemicals safely, observing MSDS guidelines and keeping chemicals locked or within sight
- Maintain housekeeping equipment and supplies, performing inspections and reporting maintenance needs
- Ensure adequate supply levels of items like soap, lotion, paper towels, and toilet tissue in center bathrooms
- Prevent buildup of wax and dirt in corners, baseboards, and doorways
- Demonstrate servant leadership by promoting the organization’s image and contributing to team initiatives and system-wide projects
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support overall center success
Required Skills and Abilities
- Fundamental knowledge of cleaning techniques and chemical safety
- Effective communication skills with coworkers, patients, family members, and visitors displayed through a warm and approachable demeanor
- Ability to follow written, oral, and diagram instructions accurately
- Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving for routine situations
- Physical capability to perform tasks including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and handling cleaning equipment, with vision sufficient for detail work
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
