Job description
Role Overview
At Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC, hospitalists contribute essential, high-quality, compassionate care within a supportive and collegial team environment. As a regional tertiary referral center serving the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap area, RIH provides a wide clinical spectrum including acute illness, chronic diseases, complex geriatric cases, and trauma management. Professionals care for a broad age range and diverse populations, including Indigenous and immigrant communities, with seasonal and regional clinical variations adding dynamic challenges.
Work Environment and Scheduling
Hospitalists are backed by an experienced team emphasizing mentorship, thorough onboarding, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing professional growth opportunities. Full-time roles consist of 24 working weeks annually, averaging 72 hours weekly—comprising six day shifts, a 12-hour late shift until midnight onsite (until 11 p.m.), and an 8-hour overnight home call. Shift and call schedules aim for flexibility and sustainability, typically equating to one extended late shift and one overnight call every two weeks with adjustments per individual preferences. Hours from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. qualify for MOCAP Level 2 incentives. Part-time hospitalist roles are also welcome and supported.
Professional Development and Academic Involvement
RIH fosters lifelong learning and academic participation through interdisciplinary rounds, continuing medical education, conferences, and teaching opportunities for family practice residents and senior medical clerks. Leadership development is also supported via Interior Health's NAVIG8 Program. Clinicians driven by clinical excellence and collaborative, compassionate care find rewarding career development here.
Compensation, Benefits, and Relocation
The compensation structure includes a clinical service contract with an anticipated annual base income of $336,168 or $200.10 per hour for full-time hospitalists. Additional group contract incentives of up to 40% plus MOCAP Level 2 and after-hours premium payments are available. The physician overhead reimbursement is $3.48 per hour worked.
Relocation assistance is provided with reimbursement maxima of $9,000 for moves within British Columbia, $12,000 for moves within Canada, and $15,000 for relocating internationally (receipt and eligibility dependent). These benefits are subject to updates and verified upon offer.
