About Us
We are Presbyterian Support Northern, a team of 900 professionals serving communities from Taupo to Whangarei. We offer critical health and social services through core programs such as Enliven, Family Works, Lifeline, and Shine. Guided by our purpose to enable better lives and values of Hope, Trust & Integrity, Compassion, Partnership, and Tangata Whenua, we support the emotional and social wellbeing of New Zealanders.
Our Lifeline service has offered 24/7 nationwide helpline and text-line counselling for over fifty years, assisting people in crisis or distress.
Role Opportunity
The Helplines Counsellor position involves taking scheduled shifts every fortnight to respond to calls and text messages on Lifeline’s support lines. Shifts are scheduled from 7am to 3:30pm and 3:30pm to midnight, including one weekend shift each fortnight. Flexibility to cover both shift times is necessary.
Required Skills and Experience
- A degree related to social services such as Counselling or Social Work.
- Proven experience delivering counselling support.
- Registration with a professional body such as NZAC, NZCCA, or SWRB.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- A passionate commitment to empowering and assisting individuals in distress effectively.
- Availability for either 32 or 40 hours per week.
- Residence in Auckland as the role requires onsite presence.
